5 Top Trends That Dominated the Kitchen Design Industry in 2018

Kitchens have undergone a lot of changes in their features, design, dynamics, etc., and are still always in the process of a continual change. Every year in the life of kitchens brings about a new wave of trends that compete for survival. 2018 was no exception, except that they  year saw kitchen owners opting for more streamlined, technologically-equipped, and yet simpler options.

Let’s have a rundown of the three most prolific trends that modular kitchens in Trivandrum oversaw in the year 2018…

Smart Kitchens

Like everything else out there, technology has made an entry into our kitchens as well, and in full force at that. We don’t just have fancy gadgets lying around the kitchen, but we have made technology integrate with in about every kitchen function, right from faucets, to lighting, to appliances, and so on. Almost every urban kitchen, from its very core and aspect of design, is gradually evolving into becoming a smart kitchen.People with traditional modular kitchens, if not completely redesigning, are making renovations and changes in their own way, like adding lighting that can be controlled through smartphones, or getting smart coffee maker that’s programmed to get coffee ready as soon as the owner wakes up, or a gadget that monitors boiling eggs, and such. As tech-integrated kitchens are gaining popularity, it is surely become one of the biggest trends going into 2019.

Dark Colors and Themes

There is an almost new color palette that has carved its path into our modular kitchens in Trivandrum; the colors navy, black, plum, and emerald green make up what kitchen designers are calling dark jewel tones. Dark kitchen cabinets have been a rage this year, and they work so well in enhancing a kitchen space with their super luxurious and just the right amount of dramatic look.

They make a room look elegant, and make one feel the deep luxurious air that most other options just fail to achieve. While the dramatic essence of a kitchen painted in dark jewel tones is a big plus, one has to take care of not letting these colors overpower the space, such as letting the kitchen go into perpetual darkness.

Streamlined Design and Interesting Textures

There was a time when mid-century modern and farmhouse styles were at their very peak in popularity, but with the passage of time, people are growing more fond of a kitchen aesthetic that is modern and more functional or practical. People are choosing designs and materials that would tend to make their kitchens more streamlined in its day-to-day operation. Today, almost every adult in a household works; that means, majority of people using kitchens look forward to a simpler and a rather stress-free kitchen environment.

A growing trend this year has been, removing the upper wall cabinets, and making the kitchen look more open, larger in size, and brighter than before. It also helps one use their countertop more efficiently. Also, so many people usually find it difficult to reach the uppermost cabinetry, or the topmost shelves in their upper cabinets, rendering them inefficient at most times. A more practical, and good looking alternative for people in 2018 has been open shelves. Using rough wood in order to include more natural elements, or metal tubing s as to lend it a rather industrial look, is what people have been biased towards. Basically, leaving the usual glossy or polished finishes quite behind, kitchen owners have been rather daring to choose different and rather interesting textures.

The trends of this year have a bearing on what features, accessories, colors, designs, and such, could or would be considered in, for the next year. While 2018 was a technologically-rich year, rather full of intriguing choices, it would be interesting to see how the next year would fare in terms of kitchen trends.
